Henry Must Go Glenrothes Socialists Call For McLeish To Stand Down As MSP Glenrothes SSP Press Briefing 08
November 2001 Henry McLeish has attempted to survive this scandal by initially saying there was no scandal. He even took full responsibility for the 'muddle not fiddle' before he knew the details of the amounts of money in question. It is the opinion of the SSP that his reputation is fatally damaged by his acknowledgement of claiming £36,000 in allowances while not declaring sub-lets to the Fees Office. Glenrothes SSP press officer Jim Balfour said, "Henry McLeish's resignation as First Minister is the first thing he has done right in relation to this affair. With his reputation now in tatters, we call on Mr McLeish to resign from the Scottish Parliament. His competence to serve as an MSP has been completely undermined. If he can't be trusted as First Minister, how can he be trusted to continue as an MSP. "This is a reflection of Labour's arrogance in power. This is why the SSP demands that its elected representatives receive no more than a skilled workers wage and are totally accountable in regard to their expenses. "A week ago Mr McLeish told his detractors to 'Put up or shut up' now we are saying that Mr McLeish should GIVE UP AND SHUT UP!" |
